Dive Friends Bonaire is doing everything in their power to help their endangered sea turtle population. Last month they gathered 115 volunteers to Dive Against Debris targeting the South Pier of Bonaire. This working pier is often used for fishing and normally off limits to divers. 

Enthusiastic divers keen to put a stop to marine rubbish are saying no to straws. It’s a small step which makes a big difference. Straws are one of the top items found by divers who regularly Dive Against Debris.

A big thanks to Austin Williams for raising over $2,000 through the sale of his funky t-shirt designs. Austin combines his creativity and passion for the ocean to create unique humorous t-shirts with a serious message.

The clock’s ticking for vanishing shark species and now is the time to join the race to protect them. It's inspiring to catch up with Finathon Champion and PADI Course Director Katy Bloor. Katy held a super successful Finathon at Sub-Mission Dive Centre, UK where over 70 divers put on their fins in protest against shark finning and swam 100 kilometers to raise funds for Project AWARE’s shark campaign.

On the eve of the Olympics Opening Ceremony, let's celebrate scuba divers who RUN! Sarah Mayers, a Brisbane Divemaster and Andy Wellsted, Course Director and Manager of Tangalooma Dive on Moreton Island are taking on the Brisbane to Bridge Challenge this September.
Sarah’s been busy educating her work colleagues about the wonders of scuba diving and the need to protect the ocean.  She’s passionate about making more people aware and hopes they will spread the word and contribute to the cause.  

On Sunday 15th July, divers from Diving Leisure London (DLL) swapped their fins for trainers to support marine conservation as part of one of their popular dive club events.
In a bid to raise critical funds to support Project AWARE's Sharks in Peril and Marine Debris campaigns, Jennifer and Alex Griffin together with a team of seven divers took on the challenge to complete 90K.
"As divers, we thought it would be great to do a DLL club event to raise money for Project AWARE” said Jennifer Griffin who organised the event.

You don’t need to spend months organizing a lavish ball or a big golf tournament to raise funds for your favourite cause. Last week All About Scuba, Victoria, Australia held their Annual Awards Night and raised a fantastic $1,000 in the space of a few hours.
How did they do it?   You guessed it, a raffle!

Last April, a group of divers from Nottingham Trent University teamed up with a local dive centre and NGO in Blue Bay Mauritius to organize a series of Dive Against Debris events and reef surveys.
The diving team led by Dr Nicholas Ray (Senior Lecturer in Environmental Ecology and PADI MSDT), with the help of Coral Diving Centre staff, surveyed the lagoon and outer reef surrounding the south east corner of Mauritius.

Indonesia's newest jail helped raise over $10,000 this World Ocean Day.  In a bid to bail our ocean out of trouble two Bali dive centers got super creative. They built a bamboo jail to raise much needed funds for our ocean. 
Bali Crystal Divers, Blue Season Bali and friends joined forces for the most unconventional, highly inventive fundraiser on record. 

To celebrate World Oceans Day: Youth the Next Wave for Change, we shine the light on Concordia International School, Shanghai.  In 2007 PADI Members Joel Klammer and Paul Adams made a big commitment to Racha Yai reef, Thailand.  Over the next five years their students witnessed firsthand coral bleaching; collected important data for conservation; discovered bananas and seawater never mix well and the joy of a 30 second shower!
