Dive Against Debris in Fethiye
Ends
In support of the new September Dive Against Debris program, Detay Diving Centre has joined My Ocean to participate in the event. We will be contributing the data collected from our organized voluntary clean-up dives, which will hopefully help towards the Project AWARE's cause of protecting our ocean planet.
Rabbit Island, a local dive site that is regularly used by Detay Diving Centre, will be the main area for our clean-up survey. Hill Side Bay, a site that has the potential to become popular, will also be included. Both sites offer diving for all diver levels so everyone can participate and make a difference. Rabbit Island is mainly a rocky reef and sea grass ecosystem, as is Hill Side Bay. However, there are also sandy and pebble sea floors, tunnels, caverns, caves and a few corals.
All these ecosystems are very important for Mediterranean marine life. Fragile nudibranch, caretta caretta (native loggerhead sea turtles), Posidonia oceanica (Neptune Grass), octopus, and sea horses are a few examples.
Fishing nets and many tourist boats traveling around the islands are a known cause of a lot of the hazards and rubbish, but lets see what we find!
