Radio Island Underwater Debris Cleanup

Ends
It is time to clean up a hot summer's mess! While we all love the beach and it's beauty that attracts us back to it's presence, we hate so see the trash that some may leave behind durig their visit!
The Radio Island Rock Jetty is a popular dive site to our area because of it's easy access, it's numerous depth ranges and of course the abbundance of life that thrives there! Many others enjoy this area to include swimmers, local fishermen, sun bathers and individuals taking up SCUBA classes for the fist time. And, it's sad to say, there is a LOT of trash of trash that gets left behind. You may find aluminum cans, beer bottles, chip bags, fishing lures with yards and yards of line attached, boat parts, and much, MUCH more. None of which belongs in the underwater environment. Let's cleanup this problem and enjoy a fantastic dive on the Jetty! This is a great dive for all levels of divers, as I have mentioned the dexterity of depths. You can stay shallow, or you can go deep- up to 55 feet deep! I gurantee that you WILL find trash at every depth!
Slack High Tide is at 1:53 PM. I recommend you have your gear ready by 1:30. Everyone is welcome to join us for the Underwater Cleanup Party. I will be providing a scale to weigh everyone's debris so that you can log in your trash for points on the Project Aware Website. With that in mind, make sure you have a nice sized and durable collection bag!
Reccomended Items: Gloves, Collection Bag, Underwater Scissors and/or Knife, Dive Light
*****FOR ALL DEBRIS CLEAN-UP PARTICIPANTS***** We will be cooking fresh hot dogs, that have been graciously donated by the Piggly Wiggly of Swansboro.
Once you have finished your debris dive, please meet back at Discovery Dive Center in Beaufort, where our grill masters will be cooking up the hot dogs. We will have condiments available along with chips. Water is available for a $1.00 donation where 100% of the funds will be donated to ECARA.
Discovery Diving is not only allowing us to use their facility for this day, but they are so kind as to supply all diver's who are participating in this dive with their air/air fill from the dive. You must mention that you are a participant in the Radio Island Underwater Debris Cleanup! If you need gear transfer, the pontoon boat will be leaving from the dive shop to head over to Radio Island, if you are wishing to put your bcd/tank/reg setup on the pontoon boat, you will need to be at the dive shop and ready to go no later than 12:30.
Please join us in this MUCH-NEEDED and FUN diving event!
*@*@*@*@* AND, a HUGE THANK YOU to Piggly Wiggly of Swansboro and Discovery Diving for their generosity!
