Ocean Awareness starts with children!

Ocean awareness
updates

As a Miss Scuba UK finalist I’ve always talked about the importance of creating awareness about the issues our oceans are facing.

I believe ocean awareness needs to start at the very beginning of a persons education, it needs to be apart of our everyday culture so that the oceans and marine life have a future.

There’s way too much plastic on our planet and the majority is not reaching the correct recycling facilities and are then ending up in our oceans killing marine life, causing eco systems to fail !

So that’s why I feel it’s extremely important to educate children early on so there aware of this situation when they grow into adulthood !

My mum and dad own a childcare business and I thought it would be a fantastic idea to introduce ocean awareness to the children they look after through fun activities like arts and crafts !

During the summer holidays I released most of the children we look after were off to visit the seaside so I asked if they could keep a look out for any plastic rubbish they find on the beach and bring it back to me.

When they returned a couple of weeks later I was in shock to see how much plastic they did actually find !

So I decided with all these plastic bottles and rubbish we could recycle it and create an ocean arts and crafts project !

So we got together and we had lots of fun choosing which sea animal to create and in the end we went with a dolphin !

We attached the plastic waste together to create the shape of the dolphin and covered it with recycled tissue paper to make it look more realistic, while making the dolphin we spoke lots about marine life the effects plastic has on them and our eco system.

The children enjoyed participating in the project and i hope they go away knowing so much more about the importance of this issue and share there new found knowledge with their friends and family !

Let’s all Reduce, Reuse & Recycle ♻️ and help are oceans for a better future !!!
