Beach Clean Up at Ko Por Island - Educational Event On Monday 28th September, Scubafish is looking forward to welcoming 80 students from Srithammarat Suksa School (also known familiarly as the AMC) to join us for a Beach Clean Up on the island of Ko Por. This will be the first event of it's kind on the island. The school, based in Nakon Si Thammarat in Southern Thailand, runs a special programme in partnership with the US State Department. The programme, which is newly up-and-running this year, offers scholarships to economically disadvantaged Thai youngsters enabling them to study English to international standards. Without the backing of the access programme, these young people and their families would struggle financially to fund such classes. Scubafish staff and the students will board our boat, MV Maya II for a fun-filled and educational day out to nearby Ko Por Island, where they'll be able to swim and snorkel as well as join in a beach clean-up. They’ll spend the day with both our Thai and International staff, learning about why its so important to us to keep our beaches and oceans clean (they’ll see for themselves when they go swimming in the crystal waters from the beautiful white sand beach) and also, why it’s so important for us at Scubafish, to employ Thai staff who can speak English to a high standard. We hope the students will see in action, just why its so useful to take part in the fight against Marine Debris and will also give them a chance to see how protecting the ocean and being ambassadors in the fight against marine debris can be enhanced by learning English with the AMC Access Programme and the benefits it will have for them when finding great careers in the future, particularly in Thailand’s thriving tourism industry.
