Dive Against Debris at White Beach

The Calypso staff dived into action at 8am to perform a cleanup dive on our house reef on White Beach. Armed with underwater trash bags and our new PADIDivemaster, the super-enthusiastic Karien Human on her first AWARE dive after her Pro certification, we went to battle! Conditions were favorable with only mild surf. No trash would be left behind! Within an hour the ten of us had collected an estimated 20kgs of trash ranging from clothes and bottles to sunglasses. We noticed that there has been a significant reduction in the number of glass beer bottles and beer cans found, which is great news and a positive move in the right direction. Once the trash had been sorted and recorded it was time for a well earned breakfast. Another successful cleanup dive with less overall trash collected, probably due the regularity of clean ups and better awareness of people visiting the island now that littering bans are advertised and enforced. Thank you to everyone who took the time and effort to make it possible.
