The Scientific Diver program is a 3 week intensive training program designed to meet all the competency standards of the European Scientific Diver qualification. The course is aimed towards anyone interested in working in the environmental consulting industry or for conservation NGO's and looking to get certified in this internationally recognized certification. At Blue Corner Dive I have created a unique program which combines the professional industry certification of European Scientific Diver (CASD - certified through CMAS), Reef Check EcoDiver survey diver (certified through Reef Check Foundation), and several other conservation certifications.

This course is designed to develop both advanced diving skills and knowledge of the marine environment. The 3-week scientific diving course will follow the schedule below, each of the topics below will have a theory component in the classroom and practical workshop in the ocean:

Scientific Diving Techniques (Week 1)

The diving knowledge and skills components include: studying decompression theory, physiology and physics of diving. Also there will be several workshops and training sessions to develop advanced diving skills such as mapping, rope work, communication techniques, and use of specialized equipment. This solid foundation in diving skills is vital for working underwater as a diving scientist.

Marine Ecology (Week 2)

The next section of the Scientific Diver program is learning a background in marine biology. Throughout the course students will take part in several lectures including Introduction to Tropical Marine Ecology, Reef Fish, Corals and Other Reef Substrate, Marine Invertebrates, Marine Plants & Algaes, Survey Methods & Techniques, Mantas of Nusa Penida.

Marine Surveys and Monitoring (Week 3)

Students will learn several methods for doing marine habitat and fish surveys through hands on workshops in the ocean. Throughout the course you will be collecting data for a few ongoing projects including monitoring a coral restoration site, collecting manta ray ID photos for our local database, and taking part in the Nusa Penida Marine Park Reef Health Monitoring surveys.

The Scientific Diver Program will be scheduled a few times throughout 2021 at Blue Corner Dive in Nusa Lembongan, Bali.
