The cleanup event is the initiative of Dive Desk but we were pleased to conduct the event in close collaboration with Male' City Council, Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) and Parley Maldives. Over 50 individuals participated in the event. including 26 scuba divers and even kids helping to remove debris from shoreline. Shoreline debris consisted mostly of plastic bottles. The total number of plastic bottles collected, including land and ocean, came up to 1,176 bottles. All plastic collected was handed over to Parley for recycling. The total amount of trash collected and weighed for the event, including all three dives and land debris was 231.5kg, of which 207kg was ocean debris.
Similar to the first dive, the third dive surveyed roughly 30m of Male' housereef adjacent to Rasfannu Artficial Beach, towards the West Park fishing point but closer to the entry point. Most fishing lines not removed. Needs more a concentrated effort and more manpower to cleanup the entangled fishing lines. The problem will persist as it is close to the designated fishing point.
Motivated to arrange more cleanups because of the enthusiastic and positive feedback from the divers.

Stormy, windy and rainy for the three days following up to the day of the event; sun broke through and beautiful weather and calm seas on the day of the cleanup.
