The purpose of this project was to clean up the beach and kill the Crown of Thorns (COT) that are eating off corals and possessing danger to fellow student divers in Sibuan Island.

Our dive center (BGB) had the honor to have World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Sabah Park working together with us on this project.

We started out our beach cleanup by giving a short briefing to our participants on where to clean up and what to be careful of. Soon after we started, the local kids came to participate in our cleanup. Together, we have collected 30kg rubbish which consist mostly plastics, straws, cigarette butts, styrofoam, bottle caps, plastic wrappers etc.

After lunch, member from Sabah Park taught us how to kill the COTs with syringe and vinegar. We were briefed on the safety and the buddy system underwater. We then proceeded to the dive sites that COTs were reportedly seen. To our amaze, after two dives at different dive sites for nearly one hour each dive, we were only able to find two COTs and executed them. We also collected rubbish underwater while we were finding COTs.

Our dive center will continue to monitor the number of COTs to make sure that they do not affect the dive sites in Sibuan Island and has given suggestion to place more rubbish bins on the island.

2018年7月22号沙巴仙本那军舰岛潜宝潜水中心（BGB）PROJECT AWARE 与根除荆棘海星的活动

这项活动的目的是清除在军舰岛上的垃圾以及根除对珊瑚伤害最大，也对潜水学员带来危险的荆棘海星。

我们潜宝中心很荣幸能够和世界自然基金会（WWF）以及沙巴公园一起合作进行这项活动。

到达了军舰岛后，我们给所有的参加者简单的简介了一下岛上最多垃圾的位置和该注意的地方。岛上的巴瑶族小朋友看见我们帮他们清理垃圾也开始一个接一个的参与我们的活动。在我们齐心协力分工合作之下，我们捡了一共有30公斤的垃圾包含了塑料，吸管，烟头，发泡胶，水瓶盖，塑料包装等等。

午餐后，沙巴公园的会员教我们怎么使用注射器与醋来根除荆棘海星。他简介了一些水下的安全措施和潜伴系统之后，我们就下水到据说看到很多荆棘海星的潜点开始根除活动。令我们惊讶的是，经过了两个长达一小时在不同潜点的潜水，我们只找到了两只荆棘海星也顺利的根除了它们。寻找荆棘海星的当中，我们也在水下捡了不少垃圾。

我们潜宝潜水中心会继续监控荆棘海星的数目，避免它们继续对军舰岛带来的危害及破坏。我们也提议了增加在岛上的垃圾桶。
