Coral Conservation Awareness and Coral Planting at Mabul, Sabah

We’re proud to share our involvement in a previous coral planting and restoration initiative, a collaborative effort between XYZ Sphere, Borneo Divers Mabul and initiated and led by myself. This meaningful project brought together both divers and non-divers with a shared goal: to restore and protect our precious coral reef ecosystems.
The program began with a coral conservation seminar, designed to raise awareness about the critical role corals play in marine biodiversity. Interactive Q&A sessions allowed participants to delve deeper into the importance of coral rehabilitation, from understanding how these efforts contribute to the larger ecosystem to learning the proper selection of coral fragments and the care required for coral nurseries.
Hands-on activities included coral frame preparation, fragment collection, and the planting of coral fragments onto the reef structures. Each step was carried out with care, following best practices to ensure the highest chance of survival and healthy growth for the new coral colonies.
We’re excited to monitor the progress of these “baby corals” and hopeful for their successful integration into the reef. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who took part and contributed their time, knowledge, and passion to this important cause.
Together, we can help restore the ocean, one coral at a time.
