Every Diver is an Ocean Hero on Every Dive

updates

Annually during the Summer months from June to October, the monsoon rain and westerly wind conditions create waves suitable for surfing at Thailand's top shore dive site, Kata Beach Reef. The weather pattern offers a few days during this 5 months period, with smaller swells and less surge for local divers to walk in for a dive or two. The amount of rubbish from single use plastics, discarded fishing nets and equipment overwhelmed the entire 2 km long Kata Bay. Current and winds brought trash as far as Sri Lanka, Indonesia and India to our coast during these five months.

Despite the insurmountable task and challenge facing our community, we are very grateful for the daily clean-up support from our local dive community in Phuket, our local surfing community on the beach and the Karon/Kata District Government to provide funding for beach cleaning staff. Our divers usually go for a fun dive and return with a bag full of rubbish, despite knowing that we won't be able to pick-up everything on our reef and in our bay.

As the world evolving into a more environmentally conscious future, we are hoping to see much more education in better consumerism, reduction in non-recyclable products, sustainable fishing practices and more ocean heroes joining in to protect and preserve our blue planet.

To learn more about our Care & Share Initiative, join in on our fun "Dive Against Debris," or how you can support us as divers, please contact us via email at [email protected] or on social media at Rumblefish Adventure on Facebook and Instagram.
