The location is near a river mouth of one of the biggest and pouted rivers in Sri Lanka.

Furthermore, a argo vessel (Xpress -Pearl sank near the area in early 2021 after catching fire. Fisherman had reported nylon micro strings getting caught in their net but didn't see anything stuck in the reef.
Intermittent rains. End of the South West monsoon season.
