Our adventures above and below water, fins on and off, allow us to see what others often don’t - bringing to the surface what’s beneath the waves. We experience first-hand how quickly overfishing and pollution can alter underwater life, irreversibly damaging ecosystems that are critical to marine health.

We take action to create both local and global change for the ocean and the communities who depend on it. Our local actions collectively protect the most vulnerable marine species and decrease pollution. We work together for a clean, healthy ocean – and we have fun doing it!

History & Achievements

Our ocean conservation adventure started as a project – an environmental ethic initiated by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI®) in the late 80’s.  In 1992, with tremendous support from the dive community, Project AWARE Foundation was registered as an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in the U.S. To engage divers and activists around  the world in conservation, Project AWARE became an established UK charity in 1999 and received formal nonprofit status in Australia in 2002. Project AWARE brings together a dedicated team of individuals around the world who share a passion for ocean protection. We champion policy change, engage and activate a global volunteer community to fuel our conservation work.

With a deep love and appreciation of our underwater world, our collective goal is to work with you - dive leaders and ocean advocates across the globe –  to become stewards for our ocean planet and secure real and direct environmental victories.
